Q&naek
MAYOR
Bill Biesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766-4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Biesener & Members of City Council
From: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
Date: March 3, 2006
Re: New Public Works Employee
I would like to recommend the hiring of Jon Illg for the position of Public Works
Maintenance Worker. Jon lives in Little Canada and will be a tremendous addition to our
staff. He is currently employed at Northwest Airlines and had worked for the City of
Richfield prior to that. He brings a great attitude and an eagerness to get started and help
us out in any way he can.
We had what I believe to be a record number of 79 applicants for the position. It was a
very good group to choose from. We interviewed 8 candidates and invited two back for a
second interview. In the end, we determined that Mr. Dig was the best fit for our group.
He has indicated that his starting date will be March 20 subject to passing a physical and
drug test. I would recommend a starting wage of $17.43 /hour with an increase to $17.86
in six months subject to a satisfactory review. That represents the six month and one year
steps on the public works maintenance scale.
