MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Ricic Montour
Barbara Allan
John Reis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www. ei.little- Canada. mn. us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: December 9, 2005
RE:
Variance for Horseshoe Driveway
601 East County Road B -2
Mike and Heidi Murphy
At Mr. Murphy's request, I reviewed the files for the attached addresses to determine
what history might exist relative to the horseshoe driveways at each of these sites. I also
reviewed the 1964 Zoning Code and the 1980 Zoning Code, and determined that there
was no prohibition of horseshoe driveways under the 1964 Code. The 1980 Code
establishes the limitation of one curb cut per single- family property.
Therefore, as you can see from Mr. Murphy's list, it appears there are five homes
constructed after the 1980 Code went into effect that have horseshoe driveways (2437
Sunset, 752 LaBore, 2465 Edgerton, 2441 Edgerton, 663 County Road B -2). Of these
five, only the site plan /survey for 2437 Sunset Court showed the horseshoe driveway at
the time the building permit was issued; an obvious error on the part of City staff. Please
also be advised that there have been requests since the 1980 Code was adopted for
horseshoe driveways that were denied by staff.
