Manage Unweave the Weave — Staff continues to monitor this important project. We have
added another full -time traffic car starting in May to work the afternoon/early evening period.
(It is important to note that we share this car with other cities and therefore, the car will not be
in Little Canada during all times it is on duty.) We are also working with Ramsey County to
address possible traffic control mitigation issues such as retiming of signal lights at
Centerville and LC Road, right turn lanes at a number of intersections, temporary traffic
signals at LC Road and Edgerton, etc. This project will be a bear, especially in 2007 and
2008.
Observation Deck at Nadeau Wildlife Area — This has been in the Parks & Recreation
Commission's plans for several years. It would be located at the north end of the park near
the current play area overlooking the wetland. Discussions with the Watershed District are
currently being held. The latest rough estimates are between $10,000 and $15,000 due to the
elevation changes that will need to be made to accommodate ADA accessibility.
Implement Rain Garden Maintenance Training Program - Staff will work with the
Watershed District on this issue. At least one of our public works employees will get training
through the district and will pass that training on to others. Another possibility is to write up
a guide or see if the Watershed District has a guide that could be handed out to those residents
who have rain gardens in their yards.
Conduct Staff Training for Nims /800 MHz — Nims stands for National Incident
Management System and is a federal requirement related to disaster response and homeland
security. Two of the key goals of this program (that is still being developed) are to
standardize training for emergency responses and standardize communication /chain of
command to make it easier to coordinate with multi - jurisdictional efforts. Our Emergency
Services Director has already started this process. The Mayor, Public Works Superintendent,
and City Administrator have also attended the introductory NIMS training session. Another
important public safety initiative is the new 800 MHz radio system being implemented by
Ramsey County. This new system will enhance communications between jurisdictions,
including those outside of the County. It will be on -line later this year.
Co -op Opportunities with Other Governing Bodies — The City has a number of
cooperative relationships with other jurisdictions. Our law enforcement contract, Falcon
Heights Building Official contract, joint contracting for sealcoating /crackfilling with Vadnais
Heights & Falcon Heights, the Cable Commission, computer support through Roseville,
Northwest Youth and Family Services, the new 800 MHz system are just some examples. We
are always on the lookout for viable opportunities. If anyone has an idea that they feel is
worth pursuing, please let me know.
Develop Replacement Schedule for Playground Equipment — No one questions the need to
maintain these facilities in terms of safety and appearance. However, there is lack of
agreement on the need to "replace" equipment because it has become dated versus on -going
maintenance. Much of our equipment was purchased in the late 80's and early 90's. We will
5
