Staff Report
To:Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council
From:Eric Seaburg, City Engineer
Date: November 12, 2025
Re:Little Canada Road Improvements – Aesthetic Update
Action To Be Considered:
Motion to approve, table, or deny the following:
No formal actional is necessary. City staff are seeking general input from the City
Council.
Background:
The planned reconstruction of Little Canada Road from I-35E to County Road C presents the
opportunity to incorporate aesthetic improvements within the corridor. Since early project
conception, a portion of the project budget has been allocated for upgraded treatments, finishes,
and fixtures.
Project and City staff have established a proposed landscaping and hardscaping plan that fits
within the context of this corridor, while also matching themes that have been used in other
corridors and public spaces throughout the City. Additionally, prominent placemaking features
and gateway signage are proposed in the roundabout centers. These locations are consistent with
the recommendations of a 2022 Gateway Signage Task Force that noted I-35E & Little Canada
Road and County Road C & Little Canada Road as primary gateway location priorities.
Presently, the proposed plan along Little Canada Road includes:
Corridor tree plantings
Maintained perennial landscape beds adjacent to each roundabout
Decorative concrete pavement in the medians and truck aprons
Mass shrub and tree planting within roundabout centers
Gateway feature walls within each roundabout center
A single pedestrian node at each roundabout
Re-use of existing hardscape amenities (obelisks, bollards)
Pedestrian level trail lighting on the north side, with banners
