Little Canada <br />Fire Department, Inc. 325 Little Canada Road East <br />Little Canada, Minnesota 55117 <br />Office: (651) 792-7680 <br />Fax: (651) 766-7092 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br />From: Don Smiley, Fire Chief <br />Date: December 12, 2025 <br />Re: Purchase of command vehicle <br /> <br />Action To Be Considered: <br />Motion to approve, table or deny the following: <br />• Approve the purchase of a new Little Canada Fire Department command vehicle up to <br />$58,500. <br /> <br />Background: <br />This new vehicle will replace the command vehicle purchased in 2019. We have these <br />vehicles on a 7-year replacement cycle in the city's capital improvement fund. Although <br />this vehicle is scheduled for replacement in 2026, we would like to place the order now to <br />ensure its timely delivery. The estimated delivery is May or June of 2026. Payment is not <br />required until the vehicle is delivered. <br />The new vehicle will be clearly marked as a fire department vehicle and will include essential <br />safety equipment, including improved emergency lighting and life-safety equipment. <br /> <br />The vehicle will be purchased from the State of Minnesota contract. <br />Source Of Funds: <br />Funding for the new command vehicle is from the Fire Equipment Capital Fund (457). $80,000 <br />was budgeted for the vehicle and all related equipment and accessories. If needed, we will come <br />back at a later date to get approval for the emergency lighting, equipment, vehicle graphics. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />Staff is recommending to approve the purchase of a new command vehicle up to $58,500.00. <br />The state contract price of the vehicle is $56,219.56, with the additional amount in case minor <br />changes to the vehicle need to be made. <br /> <br />Attachments: <br />• State bid contract
