Adult-Use Cannabis <br />The City of Little Canada opposes any efforts to reduce cities’ local control and zoning authority <br />related to cannabis. The City of Little Canada supports legislation providing cities the ability to <br />prohibit cannabis businesses within their jurisdiction. <br />The City of Little Canada supports reestablishing the Local Cannabis Aid Account to provide <br />ongoing funding to cities to assist with costs related to the local implementation of legal adult- <br />use cannabis. <br />(Source – Metro Cities 2026 Legislative Policies, page 25) <br />Broadband Technology <br />The City of Little Canada supports local authority to manage and protect public rights-of-way, <br />including public and private infrastructure, to zone, to collect compensation for the use of public <br />assets, or to work cooperatively with and respond to applications from the private sector. <br />(Source – Metro Cities 2026 Legislative Policies, page 61) <br />City Revenue Stability and Fund Balance <br />The City of Little Canada opposes state attempts to control or restrict city fund balances, or to <br />use city fund balances as a rationale for reducing state aid or delaying property tax payments. <br />(Source – Metro Cities 2026 Legislative Policies, page 8) <br />Inclusionary Housing <br />Little Canada supports the location of affordable housing in residential and mixed-use <br />neighborhoods throughout the city. Little Canada supports a city’s authority to enact its own <br />inclusionary housing policy. However, Little Canada does not support the passage of a <br />mandatory inclusionary housing state law imposed on local governments that would require a <br />certain percentage of units in all new housing developments to be affordable to households at <br />specific income levels <br />(Source – Metro Cities 2026 Legislative Policies, page 45) <br />Local Zoning Authority <br />The City of Little Canada supports local authority over land use and zoning decisions and <br />opposes the creation of non-local appeals boards with the authority to supersede the city zoning <br />decisions and statutory modifications that would diminish the ability of cities to set and <br />implement local zoning ordinances and policies. <br />(Source – Metro 2026 Legislative Policies, page 71) <br />Local Government Aid (LGA) <br />The City of Little Canada supports increasing the LGA appropriation to address cities’ unmet <br />needs as defined by the LGA formula.
