2W4 <e2CW a
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www. c i.l ittle- canada. mn. us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor B1esener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: January 7, 2005
RE: Salary Adjustments
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Jim laValle
Matt Anderson
Ride Montour
Bill Biesener
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
In implementing the 2005 Wages, it became apparent that two additional salary adjustments
are warranted beyond what was approved as part of the 2005 Budget package.
The first involves our City Hall custodian, Carol Stenger. Her current wage is 810.65 per
hour. However, we noted that we are paying the person taking care of the Old Fire Hall
511.55 per hour. (This was necessary to find someone to take on this job and still seems
appropriate for the market given the limited hours per week this position demands.) Staff
believes these positions must be on the same scale to comply pay equity requirements. It
should also be noted that Ms. Stenger does an excellent job for us.
The other adjustment involves Iris Pechman. As you know, Kris handles the City's website
and newsletter. She is working on a part -time basis (about 20 hours per week). In doing our
salary review, we neglected to take into account the special nature of her duties clue to the fact
the Stanton Report (survey of metro city wages) does not have comparisons for what Kris is
doing. We made some calls to other cities to see how they compensate the person (or people)
that handle similar duties. It seems that each city is different in who they have handling these
tasks. As a result, we took examples most similar to our situation and taking into account or
overall salary program. The result is that the current scale should be adjusted as follows:
2005 Proposed Salary Scale:
Start 6 Mo.
16.76 17.13 17.60
3
18.44 19.28
4 5
20.12 20.95
2005 Revised Salary Scale: Based Upon Roseville Desk Top Publisher
Start 6 Mo. - _t
(7.36 : 3.31 3.76 19.65 70.7 31.45
1
