Hanson <br />Recently, some members of the City Council have expressed concern about "No Parking" <br />restrictions on City streets. Arcade (County Road D to Keller Parkway), McMenemy, Viking <br />Drive ( McMenemy to Edgerton), County Road B2 from Edgerton to Arcade, and LaBore <br />Road (Edgerton to County Road D) were posted in 2000 due to their designation as an "on- <br />street pedestrian path ". <br />Minutes from 2000 are included to give you the background on the discussion that took place <br />when these restrictions were enacted. Essentially, pedestrian safety was the primary reason. <br />When that factor is coupled with the ease by which we issue parking permits, it was felt that <br />the parking restrictions were not too onerous. You will note that the restrictions remained <br />even after some negative public reaction with discussion from the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission and the City Council. <br />Staff has not received many negative comments about the continued existence of these <br />restrictions. "I'he one concern we have heard is the inconvenience created when impromptu <br />guests arrive after it is too late to get a permit from City Hall. <br />If the Council were to consider lifting these restrictions, I would recommend caution for <br />LaBore Road, and Arcade Street due to the impacts of Unweave the Weave. Presently, <br />Lal3ore Road is carrying 600 more cars per day as a result of the Edgerton Bridge closure. <br />That number will increase even more within the next two months when additional traffic is <br />detoured to Lal3ore Road with the closure of County Road D at Edgerton. ( LaBore will <br />become the official detour route at that time.) This increase in traffic will last at least until <br />late iuly. When the full impact of Unweave the Weave is felt. I believe a number of our local <br />streets will see significant traffic increases as motorists look for alternate routes. <br />If the Council were to pursue this issue. I would suggest we obtain input from the Ramsey <br />County Sheriff's Department and then a recommendation from the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission. <br />-1- <br />
