(The specification form is attached for your review.) You will note that I have requested sweeping to begin on March 281h1, weather permitting. This is much earlier than previous years. Staff feels it is appropriate to try an earlier sweep to minimize sediments flowing into our storm sewer system. Should we experience inclement weather that requires sanding, we will not use any sand, and go with a "salt -only" application at a lighter rate. Again, this would only occur if absolutely necessary. The two companies solicited were George's Companies and Allied Blacktop Company. Both of them have swept for the City before and can do a quality job. Their quotes for the service are attached to this memo, You will note that Allied has provided the lowest price except for Alternate 1 for Program 2. This alternate would have the contractor sweep areas and then dump the materials at designated sites within the City. We would then come in at a later time and pick up the material to haul it to the County's disposal site. That may be a viable option for our summer sweep and staff will further evaluate that possibility at the conclusion of the spring sweeping. With the volume of materials generated by the spring sweeping, we feel the most efficient method is Program 1 at an hourly cost of $195 per hour. This will include two sweepers and one tandem dump truck to haul from both sweepers. We estimate the total cost of this program to be in the range of 87,800 (80 hours of sweeping) to $9,750 (100 hours of sweeping). cc: Pete Capistrant. Allied Blacktop Company George Hanna.
