Hanson www.ci.little-canada.run.us MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council FROM: Brandon Rickert, Cable TV Producer DATE: April 7, 2005 RE: Cable Equipment Purchases Attached are quotes received for proposed 2005 cable equipment purchases. Below is a brief explanation of each equipment category: Misc. Equipment Several equipment items were bid under this category. Some of the more major items include: • Evolution Wireless Package — to be used with the camcorder. Will improve safety by eliminating cords and improve mobility when conducting interviews. • Scala Upgrade — updated file system that is able to import digital photos and use them as backgrounds. Upgrade will provide improved fonts, colors, and pre -made backgrounds. • Sony Compact DVC — will capture the video onto the editing computer. This item is needed to play back tapes. We currently use our camcorder for this function, but it is not made to be utilized as a VCR. Doing so will wear out the heads quickly which are more costly to replace than a deck. Three quotes were received for the miscellaneous equipment purchases proposed. I am recommending that the quote received from Alpha Video be awarded; however, please note that I will be contacting Alpha to attempt to negotiate down some of these items. Editing Computer I obtained pricing for upgraded editing equipment directly from Apple in order to receive government discounts. This new equipment will allow us to edit Canadian Days and similar such programs on -site rather than trying to compete for editing time with hundreds of volunteers at the CTV site. The new computer will allow us to convert our old videos onto DVD.
