LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
JIM MORELAN, Director
(65 I) 766 -4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
BRAD VOLK, Maintenance Supervisor
(651) 766 -4056
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: April 8, 2005
RE: Park Signage
At their November 4, 2004 meeting, the Parks & Recreation Commission passed a
motion recommending approval of the low bids for the Spooner Park entrance sign and
the Firefighter Historical Trail sign. Cost of the Spooner Park sign is $26,206 (includes
the sign panel, two stone columns, and pavers with the City logo). Cost of the signs for
the Firefighters Historical Trail is $13,300 (includes the sign panel and two brick
columns). Bids are attached.
The Canadian Days Committee had expressed interest last year in contributing toward the
cost of the Spooner Park sign due to their name being incorporated into the sign. An
amount was not mentioned, but this issue will be addressed further with the Committee.
A committee of the Fire Department has also discussed contributing toward the cost of
the Firefighters Historical Trail sign, but again, no dollar amount has been approved at
this time. I will continue to pursue this funding also.
I would recommend award of the low bids as listed for both signs with the hope that
construction could be completed before the Canadian Days Celebration.
