An EasySelf- Inspection Checklist <br />Updated July 25, 2003 <br />Have you ever wondered how your property would rate according to neighborhood expectations <br />and city ordinances? The following checklist is intended to help you evaluate the condition of <br />your own home and property. This list includes common neighborhood expectations, as well as <br />some Brooklyn Park ordinance requirements. <br />Grounds and Yard Maintenance <br />Yes <br />No <br />iDo you have? <br />Trash, garbage, dog /animal feces, junk, brush, leaves (not proper compost bins), car parts, <br />appliances, scrap lumber, metal, tires, buckets, equipment or any other item stored outside you <br />don't want to throw away because someday you might use them or just haven't got around to <br />disposing them. <br />Garbage and trash stored loosely and uncovered, not stored inside a tightly covered can to <br />keep out dogs, birds, insects or other pests and keep trash from blowing around, <br />Garbage, trash, and recycling containers stored outside, except on the day of pickup. <br />Inoperable, junk, unlicensed, or commercial type vehicles located outside. <br />Motorized vehicles parked in the yard or on a landscaped area (gravel, woodchips, grass, etc.) <br />instead of on a paved surface, such as the driveway. <br />Dead trees or dead limbs in trees, overgrown or dead bushes, unkempt landscaped areas, <br />unstacked piles of firewood, noxious weeds, or weeds or grass over six (6) inches in height. <br />Pools of stagnant water, buckets, tires, unused swimming pool or spa with standing water, or <br />other items that collect water and are a good environment for mosquitoes. <br />House, Buildings and Structures- Exterior <br />Yes <br />No :l <br />Do you have? <br />Missing house numbers (for your address), a minimum of 4 inches high and which are plainly <br />visible and legible from the street or roadway. <br />Cracks or holes in building foundations; siding missing or with openings (including missing <br />dryer vent cover), holes or cracks; cracks or missing mortar in brick or stucco surfaces <br />including the chimney; walls, trim, or soffits with holes, cracks, or rotting wood; gutters or <br />downspouts loose, sagging or disconnected. <br />A roof that's sagging, damaged or missing shingles, or has holes. Eaves or soffits damaged, <br />missing boards or rotting. Areas that pests can get in. <br />Broken or boarded up windows or skylights, torn or missing screens, windows or doors that do <br />not fit properly in the frame. Doors- including house, garage or shed doors- that do not open <br />or close properly. <br />Porches and decks with missing railings; loose, missing, or rotted boards or columns; or <br />excessively sagging, leaning, or unstable. <br />Stairs, steps, or stoops with missing sections, loose or missing handrails (a handrail is needed <br />if you have 4 or more risers- have to step up 4 or more times). <br />Fences, abandoned swimming pools or spas, retaining walls, sheds or garages- that have parts <br />missing, are leaning or falling down, have deteriorated or rotting boards. <br />Sidewalks or driveways with tripping hazards, cracks, severely deteriorated and do not keep <br />dirt from tracking into the street. <br />Exterior electrical lights and receptacles not working or wires visible. Lights glaring and <br />lighting up neighbor's property. <br />Outside faucets leaking, faucets without backflow preventers. <br />Any of the above mentioned buildings, garages, structures, or items with deteriorating surfaces <br />such as blistering, cracked, or peeling paint or stain, or rust showing through finished surfaces. <br />Answering "NO" to all of the items means you are successfully maintaining the exterior of your property <br />and should be proud of its appearance.
