LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www. ci.1 i ttl e -can ad a. m n. us
TO:
FROM:
DATE:
MEMORANDUM
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766-4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
BRAD VOLK, Maintenance Supervisor
(651) 766 -4056
Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
November 15, 2005
RE: Pioneer Park Warning Track Installation
Additional Compensation to Contractor
In September, 2004, the City awarded the low bid of Peterson Companies in the amount
of $37,835 for warning track installation in Pioneer Park. Upon award of the bid, the
contractor began the work. Due to the wet fall weather, the project could not be
completed in 2004. The contractor then requested authorization to finish the project in
the Spring of 2005. However, given that league play began on May 1, 2005, the
contractor was not allowed to complete the project until this fall since there was not
adequate time to complete without interfering with summer Leagues.
Based on the increase in agglime and fuel costs from the fall of 2004 to the fall of 2005,
the contractor is requesting additional compensation of $2,188.27 for this work (invoice
attached). The City Engineer has reviewed this request and agrees that it accurately
reflects agglime unit price increases as well as fuel price increases.
In reviewing the request for additional compensation and comparing it to bids received
this year for the construction of two other warning tracks, it would be my
recommendation that Peterson Companies be compensated an additional $1,695.00 rather
than the $2,188.27 requested. The additional $1,695.00 plus the $37,835 awarded price
equals the low bid that was received for the other warning track work that was done this
year.
