MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R Hanson
www.ci.1ittle- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: September 7, 2005
RE: Truth In Taxation Hearing
As required under State Statute, the City of Little Canada must hold its Truth In Taxation
hearing (and continuation hearing, if determined necessary) between Tuesday, November
29'h and Monday, December 20t. The County, School Districts, and Metro Joint District
have scheduled their TNT hearings, and the date the City chooses cannot conflict with
any of those hearing dates (See calendar attached of dates left available to the City.)
Given that the Legislature has reserved Monday, December 5th, and Monday, December
12th, for cities to schedule their TNT hearings, it would be staff's recommendation that
the Little Canada Truth In Taxation hearing be scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Monday,
December 5, 2005. A continuation hearing should be called for Monday, December 12,
2005, and will be held only if determined necessary.
Actual adoption of the budget cannot occur at the Truth In Taxation hearing. In the past
the City has combined its two regular December meetings into one, and has held the
Public Hearing for budget adoption at that meeting. Consistent with that practice, it
would be staff's recommendation that the Council hold its regular meeting on December
14, 2005 and cancel its regularly scheduled December 28' i meeting. Staff would further
recommend that the Council call a public hearing to adopt the 2006 Budget at the
December 14th meeting.
3
