MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 14, 2008
would work toward those goals. The Planner indicated that this is correct.
Additional components include the number of households a city has as
well as number of affordable housing units. The Planner indicated that
Little Canada has not had a problem meeting those goals. The Planner
also reported that the Met Council has been accepting of realistic changes
to their projections.
Helmeke asked if the Comp Plan Update held a lot of value for Little
Canada or is it an exercise to meet Met Council requirements. The
Planner indicated that even if the City does not have a lot of changes in its
Comp Plan, the update is a reaffirmation of the City's plan.
Helmeke asked about previous discussions to create zoning that would
protect environmentally sensitive areas. Blesener noted that study of that
issue has lead to the new R-1 standards that were discussed this evening.
Blesener felt that these new standards addressed environmental issues
given increased tree preservation requirements, limitations on impervious
surface coverage, larger lots and increased side yard setbacks.
With regard to the Comp Plan Update, the City Planner indicated that in
mid-April he would have in interim report that would include inventory
materials, address general planning issues, and restate the City's land use
goals. Once that information is reviewed, the Planner recommended that a
workshop be held in late May or early June to review land use
redevelopment opportunities. The Planner felt that the draft plan would be
ready by mid to late summer. The Planner further noted that he would
provide the Council with monthly updates on the progress being made in
the Comp Plan Update.
There being no further business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at
7:10 p.m.
ilham Blese r, Mayor
Attest: ~- /
Joel anson, City Administrator
9
