MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766-4048 Joel R. I- Ianson
www.ci.little-eanada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: August 18, 2005
RE: Laborer's District Council Building (former Ruff Cuts)
The Laborer's District Council has purchased the former Ruff Cuts building at the corner
of Little Canada Road and Jackson Street. The Laborer's District Council is now
requesting an access drive onto Jackson Street to serve a single handicapped parking
space for their lower level. (See site plan attached.)
The City Planner has also reviewed the site plan with regard to compliance with parking
requirements given the change in use. He has indicated that it appears the Laborer's
District Council will exceed required parking spaced by two or three spaces.
As you may or may not recall, a condition of approval of the Ruff Cuts building was that
access be restricted to Little Canada Road. Ruff Cuts had originally proposed their
access to be via Jackson Street. (See minutes attached.) This restriction was made at the
request of the adjacent residential neighborhood. The Laborer's District Council feels
that the impact would be minimal on Jackson Street given the driveway access will be
limited to one handicapped accessible parking space.
The City Planner will be prepared at Wednesday's meeting to discuss this issue with the
Council. Property owners within 350 feet of the site are being informed that this issue
will be discussed at Wednesday's meeting.
