contractor who installed the well in 1985 and he confirmed that the plastic pipe in
place is rated at 100 p.s.i., which would work in our system. The homeowner has
agreed to sign a document accepting all responsibility if the line fails and he also
agreed to disclose this information to any future potential owners of the property.
The city will keep this documentation on file at city hall so there is public record
of it as well.
I would recommend that we allow the contractor to tie into the existing plastic pipe so
that all of the potential problems with the first scenario could be avoided. There is too
much at risk with both his garage and driveway facing the possibility of being excavated.
We will require the contractor to use a brass barb connection between the plastic and
copper to minimize the chance of a bad connection. If all of our guidelines are met, I
believe we could make things easier on everyone involved if we allow the connection to
the plastic line.
