BMP Name: City Staff Training and Inform <br />Unique ID: 6 -02 -R <br />rogram <br />MC11MI: 46 — Pollution Prevention /Good Housekeeping For <br />Municipal Operations <br />o{ little CanQ <br />COMMUNITY D2IDE <br />1953 - 4CO3 <br />Description: <br />The City will work with the RWMWD to develop a pollution prevention workshop or training <br />program for City grounds and landscaping staff, street maintenance staff and stows water system <br />staff. The City will strive to reach all staff having. responsibilities in the storm water program <br />annually. The City will also provide information for new employees as needed. <br />Justification: <br />City staff use substantial quantities of artificial chemicals, and are involved in activities that can <br />result in elevated levels of nutrients and toxics in receiving waters. The workshop and training <br />programs will emphasize the benefits of recycling organic material; improved mowing and lawn <br />maintenance practices; reducing the use and planning the timing of application of chemicals and <br />water; .selecting native vegetation to reduce water; nutrient, and maintenance demands; street <br />sweeping and sand /salt application activities. This is a required BMP under Permit Part V.G.6.a. <br />Responsible Staff /Position: <br />Pubiic Works Director 651.766.4049 <br />Measurable Goals: <br />I. Coordinate comprehensive staff training program development with member RWMWD by <br />March 2006. <br />2. After program is in place conduct a staff training event at least annually to discuss storm water <br />related operational priorities and activities. Track number of staff attending. <br />Implementation Schedule: <br />1. Formalize training program by March 2006. <br />2. After program is in place conduct ongoing training activities annually. <br />Education Program /Public Outreach Component: <br />1. Audience or audiences: City staff involved in storm water and water resource activities. <br />2. Increased awareness: The program will make known the importance of stoup water issues and <br />how staff activities can impact water quality. <br />Annual Reporting Items: <br />1.
