BMP Name: Street Sweeping Program <br />Unique ID: 6 -06 <br />MCM: #6 — Pollution Prevention /Good Housekeeping For <br />Municipal Operations <br />61 of Little Cati <br />olo <br />CGrIr1UNPP/ PQIDE <br />1953 - 2CO3 <br />Description: <br />The City will continue a practice of street sweeping for vehicle safety, pedestrian safety, and water <br />quality and environmental reasons. Street sweeping will be done as weather pemlits in the Spring <br />(April /May) of each year. <br />Justification: <br />Street sweeping is a practice in most urban areas, often as an aesthetic practice to remove sediment <br />buildup and large debris from curb and gutters. In colder climates such as Minnesota, street <br />sweeping is used to reduce the pollutant loads from road salt and sand and reduce the amount of <br />sediment delivered to waters and water quality treatment systems. <br />Responsible Staff /Position: <br />Public Works Director 651.766.4049 <br />Measurable Goals: <br />1. Sweep at least once in the spring of each year. <br />2. Annually track and record the number of miles swept. <br />3. Annually track and record the dates of sweeping, man -hours and general areas swept. <br />4. Annually estimate the amount (volume or weight) of debris collected. <br />5. Prepare a written street sweeping policy by March 2006. <br />Implementation Schedule: <br />1. See measurable goals descriptions. <br />Education Program /Public Outreach Component: <br />1. Audience or audiences: All City residents and business groups. <br />2.
