30 Jan 2004
City of Little Canada
Joel R Ilanson, City Administrator
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Reference: application for property changes at 2367 McMenemy Road submitted by
Sharon Lewandowski
Attached is a signed petition to vacate a long -ago proposed road across the wetlands of
the property at 2367 McMenemy Road. The property is in the estate of Donald Mackin
and I am one of his three heirs and the personal representative of the estate.
The house sits on 5.5 acres of land, the majority of it being wetlands. I spent the majority
of my school age years growing up there and know the surrounding lands intimately.
Since there is little necessity to run a street through the swamp (but not over the William
Bros pipeline) to intersect the Highway 36 /Interstate 35 cloverleaf, I think it is safe to say
that there is no need to spend public funds to fill in a wetland for no reason.
It is also our intent after vacating the street to divide the 5.5 acres so we can more fully
protect the wetlands from future development. It is the home of animals and birds and no
one needs to live right next to the Interstate which again would require public funds for
noise mitigation to make it habitable. The most common sense solution is to use this land
as a natural preserve and buffer.
While I haven't lived there since I left for the US Army in 1970, I do maintain a strong
interest in keeping as much open space as possible in Little Canada. I currently am a
Bloomington resident.
I urge your support of these proposed changes. If you have any questions or would like
to discuss further, please let me know.
Sincerely,
I _., ._ C
Terrence C.
