515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada. MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Joel Hansen, City Administrator
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: January 8, 2004
RE:
Unweave the Weave Neighborhood Meeting
MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Jinn LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
13111 B1esener
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
At the January 6, 2004 Little Canada Neighborhood Meeting a resident from the Twin Lake Area had
two questions about the Unweave the Weave project. The following information is provided in
response to those questions.
1) Question - A resident stated that the proposed roadway is to close to Twin Lake Trail and will
result in very steep slopes that will hard to maintain.
Response - Based on the attached cross sections for the project in the Twin Lake Trail area,
MNDOT is going to provide a 3:1 slope from the Noise wall that will end before our curb and
gutter on Twin Lake Trail. This slope should be easy to maintain and put vegetation on to
break up the view of the noise wall.
2) Question - A resident stated the trees between Twin Lake Trail and MNDOT's roadway
provide a pleasing view for the residents and should be saved.
Response — I drove the area and there are a tree located on both MNDOT's right -of -way and
City of Little Canada Twin Lake Trail right -of -way. The trees are mostly Russian Olive,
Cottonwood, and some kind of Black Berry with a mix of maybe 1 or 2 Maples. I believe the
tree quality is poor and should be replaced with an overall vegetation plan that will breakup the
noise wall.
1: \GregS \Proposed 1 694 &I 35E Project \Open 1 -louse Comments.doc - 4 -
