NO`., "'' "'T " ^ -I_ COMPANY FUR POST
PINE CITY, MINNESOTA
This new 15,000 s.f, interpretive center houses a museum /exhibit space, including an object theater, a museum store, multi-
purpose /classrooms, reading room and staff offices. Site development included the design of interpretive trails through both
wooded and wetlands terrain, with a fully accessible broad walk path to bring all visitors into the heart of the wetlands.
As the designers* of the Northwest Company Fur Post Educational Facility, we worked with the community of Pine City, and the
Minnesota Historical Society through a series of public design meetings, to arrive at a consensus about the philosophical,
aesthetic qualities, and site issues necessary to produce the best possible new facility. This process involved changing the
location and orientation of the new building several times, in response to group discussion and the increasingly clearer defini-
tion of goals. Many images telling the 'Fur Post Story' have been incorporated into the design of the building until the building
itself starts to set the mood for a visitor's travel back into history.
*While with Winsor /FaricyArchitects
BARBOUR /LADOUCEUR ,T.- r...__
DESIGN _
GROUP I_,.
