MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />September 5, 2002 <br />ICE CREAM <br />SOCIAL <br />TRAILS <br />DIRECTOR'S <br />REPORT <br />Motion seconded by Gray. <br />Motion denied 3 —1. Sackett Glaser voted against and Steinert and Schabacker abstained <br />due to their desire to review City staff's report on this issue. <br />Schabacker recommended that the Noel Drive property purchase be tabled until the <br />Commission has time to review the report prepared by City staff. <br />Motion seconded by Steinert. <br />Motion carried 4 — 2. Gray and Larson voted against. <br />Sackett Glaser asked that City staff also look into the legalities of placing a restrictive <br />covenant on the property which would require all future owners to maintain the same <br />historical appearance of the home(s). Smith stated that she would also do some of her own <br />research. <br />This item was tabled until Horwath is present to discuss feedback from the band. <br />Sanders handed out a map showing the desired trail connections along with a project <br />description. He stated that grant applications are accepted on a bi- annual basis. The next <br />round will begin during the summer of 2003. The Commission felt that the City should keep <br />trying for grants, but to also continue moving along with the development of trails. <br />Smith suggested talking to the DNR's Trail Development Specialist about the ideas Little <br />Canada has for trail connections and what should be focused on in order for Little Canada to <br />receive a grant. One thing that this person looks for is links to major trails like the Gateway <br />trail. <br />Sanders suggested that the Commission review the material he gave them in order to decide <br />on priorities. <br />Anderson reported on the following: <br />♦ Firearm Safety was held in August and the class was very well received with 18 in <br />attendance. <br />♦ Adult fall softball is underway with 24 teams playing on Tuesday, Wednesday and <br />Thursday evenings. <br />♦ Upcoming youth registrations include basketball league and fall gymnastics. <br />♦ Upcoming adult activities include senior exercise beginning this month and 55 alive <br />driving classes scheduled in November. <br />♦ Senior safety camp is a new class scheduled on September 18 at Fairview Community <br />Center that is sponsored by Roseville Police, Roseville Fire, Roseville Area Senior <br />Program, Roseville Parks & Recreation, and Little Canada Parks & Recreation. <br />Page 3 -2 "0 <br />
