These applications are necessary to <br />facilitate their desire to construct a new 44,060 sq. ft., two -story charter school, with off - street parking <br />facilities and accessory uses (ATTACHMENT — B). <br />The Agriculture Food Sciences Academy (AFSA) is a public funded charter high school, grades 9 — 12, <br />"...where students ...focus on biotechnology, science and mathematics while studying in the context of <br />agriculture, food sciences and the environment" [per AFSA's web- page]. The school is currently <br />located in a leased building space near County Road B2 and Rice Street in the City of Little Canada. <br />The school currently has 18 faculty members and 165 students, and hopes to double that number to 300 <br />students with the opening of this new school. <br />This site is currently owned by the City of Vadnais Heights; however, AFSA has a tentative purchase <br />agreement with the City on this site, subject to a number of conditions and approval of these <br />development applications. <br />Staff & Development Analysis <br />a) The subject property is currently zoned "WW" Water Works District.
