BOB FLETCHER
RAMSEY COUNTY SHERIFF
425 Grove St.
St. Paul, MN 551 01 -241 8
Telephone: (651) 266 -9300
Telefacsimile: (651) 266 -9301
October 29, 2004
Joel Hanson
Little Canada City Manager
515 East Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Joel,
The Sheriff's Department staff and I have reviewed the potential staffing options for
additional patrol coverage for the Montreal Court Apartments for the 2005 -year. Our
recommendations consist of two options in addressing the high number of calls for
service to these complexes.
We had considered a contractual arrangement directly with Goldmark Companies but
have declined that option, as it would not be in keeping with our traditional contract
arrangements in providing policing services to only governmental agencies.
Option one is the City of Little Canada would hire 1.5 Deputy Sheriff's at a cost of
$141,997.42 a year to provide full seven -day week coverage on an eight -hour afternoon
shift. These Deputies would be on a four -day on and two off schedule. They would be
assigned to patrol the Montreal Court Apartments and have access to their assigned patrol
vehicle. This costs includes salaries, overtime, insurance, overhead, vehicle, uniforms and
equipment. We would bill this through the current Little Canada contractual agreement
for police services. Little Canada would bill out Gold Mark Companies.
Option two is Goldmark Companies would hire off duty Deputy Sheriff's at $40.00 an
hour to provide coverage to the apartment complex during selected days and hours of the
week. This would be a private arrangement between the off-duty Deputy and Goldmark
Companies.
If you are in need of any further information I can be reached at 4651- 481 -1306.
Sincerely,
George Altendorfer
Division Commander
Patrol Operations
Ramsey County Sheriff's Department
ADULT DETENTION DIVISION (651) 266 -9350 CIVIL PROCESS (651) 26 :04.. ^ PATROL DIVISION (651) 481 -1317 • WARRANTS (65f) 266-9320
