Proposed utilities. We understand that City sewer and water will be installed to service
the development and storm sewer constructed for drainage
C.l.d. Precautions Regarding, Changed Information. We have attempted to describe our
understanding of the proposed construction to the extent it was reported to us by others.
Depending on the extent of available information, assumptions may have been made based on
our experiences with similar projects. If we have not correctly recorded or interpreted the project
details, we should be notified. Additional analyses and revised recommendations may be
necessary.
C.2. Suitability of Existing Soils
The swamp and lake deposits are considered compressible and unsuitable for support of
residential foundations and floor slabs. We recommend that these materials be removed from
below proposed building areas and replaced with compacted engineered bacldrll. The underlying
glacial till is considered generally suitable for Support of the proposed structures, though locally,
some excavations may be needed to remove the upper portion of the clay where it is soft. Rather
soft clays were encountered in Boring ST -1 just below the lake- deposits. The need to remove
these materials should be further evaluated when exposed during grading_
Relative to the proposed street construction, consideration could be given to leaving the swamp
and lake deposits in -place (at depth), and constructing. street embankments and pavements over
these organic materials. With this approach, however, significant settlement may occur,
especially where higher embankments are placed over the organic materials, Given that utilities
will likely he placed within the street, and corrective excavations are warranted to remove
organic materials below the utilities, we recommend that organic materials be removed from
below the entire street section as well.
C3. Groundwater
Groundwater is expected to impact construction plans, as excavations to remove swamp and lake
deposits will likely extend below groundwater. Groundwater will also affect design plans, as
lowest floor elevations will need to be constructed a minimum distance above groundwater.
Groundwater elevations Should bb expected to fluctuate both annually and seasonally.
