and lake - deposited sands and silts. In post- glacial t.im4s
some deposits of peal: and organic soils have formed at the
surface. Fill has been placed over the ncrt:ural soils at some
time in the past,
SOIL CONDITIONS
Four basic soil types were encountered in our ±nvest.iaa
lion, These are fill; post- glacial anionic soils; silt and
silty sands; and Des Moines clayey glacial till,
Fill
The proposed building area is presently covered by a
layer of fill. The thickness of the fill is 13'i to 9 feet at
the higher most southerly end of the building. Within the lower
northerly one - third of the building area the fill. is 1.2 to 3
feet thick and is underlain by peat and organic soils. The
composition of the fill is mainly sandy silt and silty sand,
with inclusions of asphalt chunks and traces of root fibers
at the south end of the building, and pockets of silty clay
in the northern portions. The uppermost few Feet of the fill
at the south end of the building is in a medium dense conditior,
but it is generally loose elsewhere.
Peat and Oraan.ic. Silt
Directly below the fill at 4 of our 6 test hole locallors
is a deposit of post-glacial organic soils. Organic soils were
not encountered below the fill at Test Holes 1 and 2, at the
extreme south end of the building. This deposit contains peat
and highly organic peaty silt, with random thin lenses of
fine sand.
SUBTERRANEAN
£;NGI NEE RI.NG INC.
M I .C*T.PN F] A [' C;'{_. I S.
