Bench has requested that the
ISSUES Council table discussion on the issue of bus benches until the next Council
meeting given that they could not be present this evening. The Administrator
felt it would be appropriate to delay the discussion as a courtesy, noting that
U.S. Bench has removed its bus benches.
Council had some general discussion of this issue with Fahey indicating that he
supported the recommendation of City staff on this matter. LaValle pointed
out that he has heard from a couple of business owners who are interested in
donating bus benches to the City in return for a small plaque on the bench
acknowledging the donation.
LaValle also reported that he was contacted by a business owner in the City
who purchased advertising on a bus bench that has since been removed. The
business owner is looking for some assistance from the City. Fahey suggested
that this was a private natter and that City staff should not spend a great deal
of time on it. City Administrator indicated that he would call the company to
determine the situation, and if necessary, suggested that a refund is in order.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO 2002 -5 -118 — TABLING ACTION ON THE BUS
BENCH ISSUE UNTIL THE JUNE 12, 2002 COUNCIL MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Fahey, LaValle, Scalze, Montour, Anderson.
Nays (0).
