0 Metro Transit
May 9, 2002
Rollie Danielson, President
U.S. Bench Corporation
3300 Snelling Avenue South
Mpls, MN 55406
Dear Rollie:
It has come to my attention that the city of Little Canada is considering a policy for the removal of
bus benches within its city limits.
On behalf of Metro Transit, I want to endorse the placement of bus benches at as many bus stops as
possible. Benches fall into the same category as bus shelters, bus pads, posted schedules, sidewalks,
etc. Most, if not all of these transit amenities should be part of every bus stop. Bus passengers need
as many of these transit amenities as possible at each stop possible whether it is to sit, get out of the
weather, or find out when the next transit vehicle is approaching.
Just as Metro Transit is considering more bus stop ADA pads, more shelters, and advocating bus
benches at bus stops, it is my understanding as mentioned above that the city of Little Canada is
possibly retreating in these areas,
Please convey to the city of Little Canada Metro Transit's desire to not support the removal of bus
benches at bus stops but to promote them. As our metropolitan area begins to endorse mass
transportation, we as cities and transit agencies must support bus stops and bus stop amenities as
more and more bus stops are established.
I understand your company, U.S. Bench Corp., owns most if not all, the bus benches in Little
Canada. In dealing with your company during the past 25 years, I have always found you and your
staff most responsive and cooperative with bus bench difficulties and requests.
Please feel free to call me at 612- 349 -7308 or have the city of Little Canada do the same if more
information is desired.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Richard J.
