MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 22, 2001
Fahey felt that the recommendation of the Planning Commission which
resulted in the revised proposal submitted this evening by Mrs. Mentes
balances the interests of the applicant and the neighborhood. Therefore, the
Council would be hard- pressed to deny the CUP. Fahey indicated, however,
that he would like to see the additional garage space incorporated into the
existing garage. Fahey stated that he would be willing to consider an increase
in total square footage if that were the case given the decreased impact on the
neighborhood by having the garage attached.
Route indicated that the neighborhood has heard that Mr. Mentes plans to put a
hoist in this garage. This raises concern that the garage will be put to a
business use. Mrs. Mentes indicated that her husband has had hip replacement
surgery and also that he is a real car buff. He had considered a hoist so that he
can raise his cars for greater ease in polishing. Mrs. Mentes indicated that he
no longer intends to install a hoist. She reported that the accessory garage
would be used for storage purposes only.
Anderson asked if the CUP ran with the land. The City Planner confirmed that
this was correct.
The City Administrator reported that Mr. Otto called to express his opposition
to the CUP based on the size of the garage and given his concern that the
garage would be used for a business since a hoist would be installed.
Mentes again indicated that the garage would be used for storage of hobby
vehicles and that they will not be installing a hoist.
Scalze asked if the siding of the garage would match the house. Mentes
reported that the plan is to install vinyl siding on the garage and to reside the
house with vinyl.
Scalze asked if there would be one driveway corning in off Greenbrier Street.
Mentes replied that that was correct. The driveway will then loop off
alongside the existing garage to access the new garage.
There was no one else from the general public present wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Fahey, the public hearing was closed.
Mr. Fahey introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -8 -179 — APPROVING THE CONDITIONAL USE
PERMIT ALLOWING FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A 22 FOOT BY 25
FOOT ACCESSORY GARAGE TO BE PLACED 6 FEET BEHIND THE
