LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766 -4029 / Fax: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766-4045
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
(651) 766 -4042
GREG HOAG, Parkkeeper
(651) 766 -4056
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: December 9, 2003
RE: Millennium Charity Plus Donation
A few months ago, I contacted Millennium Charity Plus to identify several potential
projects in the city that they might wish to donate funds towards. As a result, their
membership voted to fund a new building in Spooner Park to replace the existing storage
garage constructed in 1978. The building is in need of extensive repair to soffit boards as
well as a new roof.
Prior to that, I met with representatives from Canadian Days and the LCRA to try to
identify their future storage needs. Canadian Days currently utilizes storage space in the
parks maintenance building and the LCRA stores some items in the Spooner Park garage
along with using it for concession sales at fundraising events.
The vision is that a larger replacement structure be built on the current garage site to
better serve the needs of those organizations along with storage needs of the parks and
recreation maintenance department, while freeing up additional, more valuable, heated
space in the parks and recreation maintenance building.
I am pleased to report that on December 4, 2003, I received a check for $60,000 from
Millennium Charity Plus to be used for this purpose. This is another example of their
ongoing support to the Little Canada community. Since the inception of charitable
gambling, they have donated in excess of one million dollars toward projects such as this
for the City of Little Canada.
ri: \KrisP\Correspondence \Iris 2003\Donation.doc
