MINUTES CITY COUNCIL OCTOBER 23, 2002 FUNDRAISER Jean Donovan reported that the Historical Society and the Little Canada Bingo Hall employees are holding a fundraiser for a long -time bingo hall employee who has cancer. All profits, salaries, and tips from the Monday, November 4th, session would be donated. The Historical Society is requesting that the City waive its 10% fee on the profits raised as part of this fundraiser. Mayor Fahey noted that while the fundraiser is for a very worthwhile cause and indicated that he is sympathetic from a personal standpoint, the request essentially asks the City to make a donation. Fahey stated that this would establish a precedent that he is not comfortable with. He acknowledged that the request would not involve a lot of money, but noted that it involves a large principle. Fahey indicated that he would prefer to make personal donations to the fundraising effort. Anderson noted that this is a long -time employee of the bingo hall who has worked to raise money on behalf of the City. LaValle pointed out that it is a tough issue and he shares the concerns raised by the Mayor. He agreed that he, too would prefer to make a personal donation.
