City of Little Canada
Mayor & City Council
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
October 16, 2003
Gentlemen:
RE: Public Hearing pertaining
On -Sale liquor licensing
I am writing as a taxpayer in the City of Little Canada to ask that you approve the
amendment for a 2:00 a. m. closing time for on -sale liquor establishments in Little
Canada. I am a resident at the Fleur Royale Condominiums located at 179 — 183 Little
Canada Road East. This is located directly west and adjacent to Gordies, an on -sale
liquor establishment.
My reasons for being in favor of this amendment are two fold. Please be aware that these
two reasons are also of importance to many of my neighbors who live in this 117 unit
condominium complex. First and foremost, the Cossacks, especially David Cossack who
manages Gordies, have been very good neighbors. They keep their grounds clean and
well maintained. Whenever joint projects have arisen they have been willing to do more
than their share. When we (the condo association) have been in need of extra parking
space, David has shared his lot with us.
Secondly, allowing the possibility of a later closing time could have a profound effect on
the profitability of Gordies business. This is due to the fact that surrounding
communities have already approved this later closing time and liquor establishments in
those communities have drawn business from Gordies. My and my neighbors concerns
for the Cossacks earnings is really a selfish interest. We have no idea of whom or what
type of business would move into the space if the Cossacks left.
In asking that you approve the possibility for a later closing time I, and those neighbors I
have discussed this with, would leave the fee structure involved entirely up to you. We
feel you will set these with the best interests of our entire community in mind.
One last point for you to keep in mind, as you strive to improve and develop our small
but wonderful community of Little Canada, please do not end the very diverse collection
of businesses already here.
`nce y
Robert L.
