Hanson The issue involving the possible closure of the suburban court facility in Maplewood has surfaced again. Attached is a draft resolution spearheaded by some of the other City Administrators /Managers of Ramsey County municipalities. It addresses the concerns suburban cities would have if the Maplewood court closes. We have been urged to adopt this resolution and become active in the decision making process to ensure our interests are protected. Also attached is a letter from Ramsey County Chief Judge, Thomas Mott. In this letter he indicates that budgetary concerns appear to be the driving concern in this issue versus the security issues mentioned over a year ago. (That is still a concern.) He also indicates a willingness to take a cooperative approach to solve these issues. I have talked with Commissioner Wiessner about this matter as well. She indicated that Ramsey County has a statutory obligation to provide a suburban court facility. She also mentioned the possibility of constructing a new court facility on the County's property just north of the Blacktern Office Park on Rice Street. In fact, it may be possible to couple a new Sheriff's Patrol station with this facility on that site versus the current proposal to build in conjunction with the County's Public Works facility in Arden Hills. I will be attending a meeting on Monday morning (August 25th) where more information will be presented on both of these topics. I will be prepared to update this information at Wednesday's meeting. 1
