My people report to me that some of you even apparently referred to Carl as a "slippery" developer - that is scandalous - he is not - he is an honest, decent hardworking person who you should be proud to have in your community, and, if that happened, I believe you awe him an apology, In today's recessionary environment, you are only dreaming if you think that property like this is going to be converted into some kind of office or manufacturing facility. Businesses are leaving Minnesota by the hundreds because of high income taxes, high workers' compensation costs, and, a general anti - business climate - the likes of which you have displayed recently. The "hitech" craze is over- with over 2 /3rds of them taking trillions of Wall Street investor dollars down with them in bankruptcies. The availability of low cost office space, in the suburbs as well as downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, is at a long term high and some even close to new buildings are as much as 50% vacant right now. You have no concept of the time, in hours, dollars and effort that we put into bringing new business to communities - as well as the efforts of Mr. Johnson to do so. Instead, you show disrepect to a person who is paying you close to six figures in property taxes. You can be assured that with a lack of understanding of what we all grow through to bring opportunities like this to communities, your efforts to bring more tax revenues and jobs to your community will fail in the future - and we are certainly going to discourage anyone from trying . to locate or do business in your community in the future. There are a lot of communities that would kill for such opportunities - as at some point, the tax revenues and more businesses will start leaving Little Canada with an attitude like you have.
