IIanson, City Administrator DATE: July 2, 2003 RE: Upgrade to 800 MHz Emergency Services Radio communications System Attached is a letter from Paul Kirkwold, Ramsey County Manager, discussing the County's initiative to proceed with an 800 MHz communications system. You will note that the County is asking for a resolution indicating our intent to proceed with the planning and development of an upgraded radio communications system. This resolution is needed to assist the County in applying for Federal funds to defray the costs of this system. .It should be noted that this resolution is not binding as far as committing the City to the expenditure of hinds in the future. Staff would recommendation adoption of the resolution as proposed. The County is developing a funding plan whereby they would bond for the entire cost of the system including the radio units needed for each jurisdiction. Details of this will be developed over the next few months. The County is hoping to have this system implemented within the next 24 months. 8001vd3z will allow for easier communication between various public safety entities. Our Fire Chief has informed me of the Little Canada Fire Department's support for this initiative. A meeting will be held on July 31' at Little Canada City Center to discuss this topic in greater detail.
