Hanson
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 18, 2003
R.E: CUP for Tent Sales of Fireworks
FW Shreveport
As the Council is aware, there is extensive redevelopment proposed in the area of the Market Place
Shopping Center. The development of both the former DeLonais property as well as the lot adjacent
to the Market Place pond will reduce the amount of excess parking at the shopping center, although
required parking for the shopping center will still be met.
Please note that the location proposed for the FW Shreveport fireworks tent is on the lot adjacent to
the Market Place pond. It is staff's position that when that site develops, FW Shreveport's CUP will
be void, and an amended CUP will be needed to relocate the fireworks tent (similar to the voiding of
the Stafki CUP at the time the Venetian property redeveloped). At that time an amended CUP is
applied for, the new location will need to be evaluated by City staff to determine that parking and
traffic flow works for both the shopping center and the fireworks tent.
Therefore, it is the recommendation of City staff that the Conditional Use Permit requested by FW
Shreveport for tent sales of fireworks be conditioned upon the voiding of the CUP at the time the site
is redeveloped.
H:AKathyG \CorrespondenceAKathy 2003 \FWShreveport.doc
