City of Little Canada, Minnesota SECTION II. SUMARRY OF SWPPP Background The City of Little Canada (City) is located northeast of St. Paul, in the north central portion of Ramsey County. Little Canada shares its boarders with Vadnais Heights on the north, Maplewood on the east and south, and Roseville and Shoreview on the West. The City covers approximately 4.34 square miles of land consisting of a mix of residential, Light- industrial, right - of -way, lakes /water, open space, and parklands. Following is a summary the City completed to prepare this Notice of Intent (NOI) for coverage under the NPDES MS4 Phase II Penult. • Self - Assessment Process, • Receiving water designation, • Stotni water management plan, • Significant non -storm water discharges to the City's system, • Listing of the Best Management Practices (BMPs) for each Minimum Control Measure (MCM) incorporated into the SWPPP. The BMP summary sheets for each of the six MCMs are provided in Appendix A. Self- Assessment Process The City of Little Canada staff attended a workshop provided as part of the League of Minnesota Cities (LMNC) NPDES Phase II Guide Plan Project. At this workshop the LMNC provided a self - assessment process outline to guide the City through a self - assessment. The City of Little Canada used this outline to complete a self - assessment that resulted in an understanding of the City's current storm water problems, programs and future priorities. Throughout the process of selection and development of the Best Management Practices (BMPs) that establish the basis for the Storm Water Prevention Program (SWPPP), the City has considered the significant sources of pollution, the potentially polluting activities being conducted in the watershed and the sensitivity of the receiving waters. The City has also considered the physical and organizational characteristics of the minor watersheds within the City. The ultimate goal of the City's SWPPP is to control or reduce the discharge of storm water generated pollutants to receiving waters.
