%rNUTES <br />parks & Recreation Commission <br />March 6, 2003 <br />ICE CREAM Steinert volunteered to coordinate this year's ice cream social. The Director stated that <br />SOCIAL the Canadian Days Committee is okay with holding the event during the week prior to Canadian <br />Days. The Commission felt that the social should be scheduled on Thursday. The Director <br />stated that A &W Root Beer will be working with us again this year. Signage needs should be <br />addressed identifying the event as well as A &W. The Director stated that he would work with <br />Steinert on this event. <br />RONDEAU The Director stated that request for bids are out and are due prior to the Council meeting on <br />PARK March 26, 2003. The Council will approve the bids at that meeting. He stated that the <br />neighborhood meeting needs to be held before approval by the Council. The Commission <br />agreed that the meeting should be scheduled on Monday, March 24, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at Little <br />Canada City Center. <br />TRAILS Due to the absence of the Parks Consultant, this item was tabled until next month's meeting. <br />The Director stated that the $200,000 matching grant application was submitted to the DNR. <br />DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following: <br />REPORT <br />• A Council workshop has been scheduled on March 26th to discuss the State's impact on the <br />City's budget. Staff has already identified some potential areas for cuts. <br />• The Friends of the Parks Tree Sale is underway with an April 14th deadline for ordering. In <br />the past, trees have been purchased and donated to the City. Flyers on this sale are available <br />in Little Canada City Center's lobby. <br />(...., A variance is needed for the Gervais Beach improvement project to allow a setback <br />encroachment into the shoreline setback requirement for a path. <br />Sclabacker recommended that the proposed variance request for the Gervais Beach <br />improvement be granted. <br />Motion seconded by Gray. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />• A current registration flyer with information on Summer Day Camp was distributed to the <br />Commissioners. <br />• The scope of the Pioneer Park soccer field project has been lessened. The center section of <br />the field will be reconstructed. This field will be closed in 2003. Maintenance on this field <br />will be increased and use will be monitored. <br />OTHER Schabacker stated that he will not be able to attend April's meeting. Broten suggested <br />rescheduling the July 3rd meeting due to the holiday. <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
