Hanson
As part of the reconstruction of Market Place Drive, the City Engineer needs to prepare plans and
specifications for the Streetscape portion of this project. (We bid this separately from the roadwork due to
the differing nature of the work. This methodology resulted in substantial savings on the Little Canada
Road project.) The key components that could make up this portion of the project include pedestrian
ways, lighting, plantings, irrigation, and monumentation.
It is my belief we do not need to mirror the Little Canada Road components on this portion of our
redevelopment area. My opinion is based on the costs for the various improvements as well as ongoing
maintenance. However, I believe the City Council should make that call to ensure the proper look is
created throughout our redevelopment area.
To that end, I have asked the City Engineer to put together a matrix that depicts the possible components
and their associated costs. To thoroughly discuss it, I believe we should schedule a workshop where this
information can be reviewed in more detail. At its conclusion, it would be my goal that we reach an
agreement on the nature of the improvements to be constructed so the City Engineer can accomplish his
design work. (From a timing standpoint, we should get the pedestrian system installed this fall if at all
possible.)
Therefore, I would recommend we hold a workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March l2d'.
cc: Lee Elfering, HRG
H: \Joe1H \Correspondence \Joel 2003 \Market Place Drive Streetscape Workshop - 2.21.03.doc
