<br /> <br /> Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Mayor Fischer and Members of the City Council <br /> <br />From: Eric Seaburg, City Engineer <br /> <br />Date: February 25, 2026 <br /> <br />Re: Little Canada Rd & Country Drive Improvements – Tree Clearing Contract <br /> <br />Action To Be Considered: <br />Motion to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />• Early tree clearing contract to Husky Construction, Inc. for the 2026 Little Canada Road and <br />Country Drive Improvements Project. <br /> <br />Background: <br />The 2026 Little Canada Road and Country Drive Improvements Project will require the removal of <br />84 standalone trees and approximately 2.5 acres of tree cover. Tree clearing is typically completed <br />by a subcontractor under the City’s general roadway construction contract. However, due to <br />environmental restrictions, all tree clearing for this project must be completed by March 31 to <br />protect the Northern Long-Eared Bat prior to its nesting and pup‑rearing period in late spring. <br /> <br />Select plan sheets showing the proposed tree clearing areas are included for reference. All removals <br />will occur within the public right‑of‑way or on private properties where construction easements <br />have been secured. Property owners have been notified of the upcoming work, and staff will <br />continue providing updates as the project progresses. <br /> <br />The tree clearing quote package was solicited to six local tree companies and two quotes were <br />received. <br />Husky Construction, Inc. ..................................... $56,280.00 <br />Precision Tree Care ............................................. $84,650.00 <br /> <br />Both quotes received are below the engineer’s estimate for the work, which was $99,500. Husky <br />Construction, Inc. is a reputable company and can perform the work within the time restriction. <br /> <br />Source Of Funds: <br />Project funding for this project is provided in the 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program. Tree <br />removal is part of the overall project budget. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendations: <br />Staff recommend awarding the Early Tree Clearing Contract to Husky Construction, Inc. in the <br />amount of $56,280.00. <br /> <br />Attachments: <br />• Pages from Tree Clearing Plans
