OPN ARCHITECTS +
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA 6
Project Understanding & Approach
Catalyze Public Spaces
We work to intertwine buildings and site — within a neighborhood context — to build
a framework for meaningful experiences. In doing so, architecture augments our
relationship with our surroundings, amplifying our sense of place. A new community
building for Little Canada presents a unique opportunity to create a destination for
residents and the community at-large. It also is a place for the community to gather,
express itself, and be seen in a thoughtful and vibrant state. This is a place for sharing
ideas and more. This is a stage on which community acts together.
Flexible & Adaptable
Flexible meeting spaces, shared synergies, and outdoor spaces that support a variety
of programs and uses are all hallmarks of modern park facilities. These popular spots
magnetize people to the space and entice them to stay. Your park is a place for
community and gathering. It too should employ flexibility and provide amenities for
being a go-to destination.
Spark Joy & Inspiration
Human interaction is a vital component of a community. When people bond with friends
and neighbors, the entire community benefits from an improved quality of life, community
pride, and increased civic participation. We promote socialization by designing a
gathering spaces and taking measures to encourage spontaneous, friendly interactions.
Foster Healthy Habits
Beyond the traditional program of a community building that is part of a larger park
setting, there are also countless ways to impact the health and wellness of the
community through active programming and design that create a building and a
site that is an example of healthy movement. Inside a teaching kitchen or outside a
courtyard of fruit trees, a green roof, or a community garden teaches healthy habits.
Biophilic principles such as abundant daylight boosts energy and mood and areas of
prospect and refuge create a sense of safety.
A new community
building will be
an integral
component of
Little Canada’s
social fabric.
As Little Canada continues to evolve, this community building is an important step
as you seek to optimize and embrace future needs of your community. Little Canada
deserves a dynamic community building that is welcoming, comfortable, durable,
and timeless. OPN believes that buildings designed for the community to gather
must respond to specificities of people, place, and program.
No two communities are the same; nor should our approach to their projects. Every
project is unique and should reflect the physical and cultural landscape of a place.
Our designs are a manifestation of our client’s goals and objectives, influenced by
environmental and community needs. Our clients are important members of the
team, and we thrive in an engaged dialogue about the issues and ideas. Building on
the effort and planning to date, we will work in tandem with the city and TAC from
project kick-off through delivery.
You need a team that is equally well-versed in recreation and community center facility
needs. As a collective, our team is uniquely qualified to be Little Canada's partner on
this project because we share your belief that the new community center must:
