MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MAY 10, 2001
subject to the restrictions of the Code. The Planner noted that the Code
would not allow for a business use of the garage.
Roycraft asked Mrs. Pelton if she felt there is a hardship to the
neighborhood in the granting of this CUP. Pelton replied that her
apprehension is for the potential business use of this garage and noted that
there are no assurances that the garage would be used for storage of
personal vehicles only.
Roycraft noted that the Code does not allow for the business use of this
garage.
Carson recommended approval of the Conditional Use Permit as requested
by Jim Cossack allowing construction of a 36 foot by 32 foot garage at
421 Eli Road subject to compliance with the recommendations of the City
Planner as outlined in his report dated May 7, 2001, subject to the exterior
of the garage matching the existing house, and subject to there being no
business use of this garage.
Motion seconded by Duray.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
CUP FOR Mr. Dick Cossack, Gordies' Place, appeared before the Commission
BOCCE BALL — requesting approval of a Conditional Use Permit for commercial
GORDIE'S recreation (bocce ball) at a location that serves alcoholic beverages.
PLACE Cossack indicated that bocce ball would be played inside the boot hockey
rink. He felt that leagues may play three nights per week and felt that the
10 p.m. time limitation was workable. It was noted that Gordies' currently
has CUP's allowing both volleyball and boot hockey six nights per week
with three tournaments per year. The time limitation for games is 10 p.m.
A resident of the area indicated that he had some concerns with noise. but
indicated that otherwise Gordies' has done a good job with their business.
It was noted that bocce ball would likely be a quieter recreational sport
than volleyball or boot hockey.
The Planning Commission noted that the City has received one letter in
support of the CUP and one in opposition. The Commission also
reviewed the report on police calls to Gordies'. Duray felt that the number
of police calls was minimal for the number of people that go to Gordies'
and participate in volleyball and boot hockey. Duray stated that he felt
Gordies' does an excellent job and has been creative in attracting
customers.
Page 23
