MAY, 9. 2001 1:30PM MRDC INTL DEPT N0, 8834 P. 1
City of Little Canada
ATTN: Kathy
I would like to be assured that the police reports of the violations of Gordies
current Conditional Use Permits be given to the Planning Commission and the City
Council. I have personally called the Sheriff's office at least 10 times in the last year to
report that Gordies was in violation of their Conditional Use Permit. I have spoken to
Mayor Michael Fahey, and basically been told that I should not worry about it.
One day last winter, I came home to a view out my living room window of a
mountain of dirty snow. This mountain was created by their parking lot being plowed for
the tournament they held at that time. This mountain was almost two stories high.
During the period that the mountain was there, numerous children were playing, and
sledding on it. I see this as a real safety issue, especially in this sue -happy society in
which we live. Could the city afford a lawsuit for not enforcing their ordinances? This
spring, as the mountain melted, the debris and trash created an even worse eye sore.
Gordies, at a Planning Commission Meeting, assured me that they always made sure
the trash was picked up so as to not create an eyesore for the neighbors. I believe the
city has ordinances prohibiting eye sore conditions in a neighborhood. It appears that
the city refuses to enforce their ordinances to certain individuals and businesses.
The perception is that the city does not care about the quiet, tax- paying citizens
and prefers to cater to the businesses. I was told, when I first moved to Little Canada in
1972, and was thinking about getting involved in politics, that if I wanted to get
anywhere In politics, I better be seen at Gordies, The perception is that, perhaps, the
sheriff and city council are paid off by Gordies. One time I called 911 about a fight in
the parking lot at Gordies, it took the sheriff aver 1 hour to respond.
At the last Planning Commission Meeting, to grand Gordies a Conditional Use
Permit, I was assured that the Permit would be reviewed annually. My guess is that the
review will overlook the numerous violations of the Conditional Use Permit, as they have
been overlooked for the past several years. If fact, the Conditional Use Permit to allow
volleyball six nights a week was only passed because Gordies was violating their
Conditional Use Permit to have volleyball only two nights a week. The perception is that
one does whatever they want, and because there is money involved, the city council
approves it.
When is the "Rubber Stamp" YES going to stop and justice prevail in our fair,
beautiful city? I would appreciate hearing a response from the appropriate people about
these matters.
Thank You,
Keith Flanagan
179 Little Canada Road East, Suite 226
612 - 299 -6436 Pager
Perception is Reality
Page 29
