MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
Email: cityhall @cLlittle - canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: February 8, 2001
RE: Wine in Grocery Stores
Attached is correspondence received from State Senator Mady Reiter asking for our City's position on the
issue of wine sales in grocery stores. Through my membership on the League of Minnesota Cities
Service Delivery Committee, I know there is a strong sentiment on the part of many local officials about
not expanding youth access to alcohol. In fact, the League Membership took an official position on that
subject. With topics such as keg registration gaining support, it would seem contradictory to expand
access in outlets that appear to offer less control over youth access.
Therefore, it is my recommendation we adopt the attached resolution opposing the sale of wine at any
outlet other than duly authorized off -sale liquor stores. If you agree, I will forward it on to our local
legislators.
Page 19
