A city
Web site you can build and manage yourself without
spending a lot of money, spending a lot of time
maintaining it, or spending your weekends learning a
new programming language. A Web site that allows
citizens to sign up online for city- sponsored
activities, such as park and recreation events, or to
obtain city permits online. A Web site that lets you
ask citizens questions through interactive polls, with
results and feedback recorded and sent to you
instantly. Even the ability to delegate responsibility
for updating sections of the Web site. And hosting
with state -of -the -art backup, monitoring and security
systems.
This is what LMC member cities have told us they
want and what the Web for Cities project is all
about. Making the idea of interactive, inexpensive
and easily managed Web sites a reality for cities
across Minnesota.
At its December meeting, the LMC Board of
Directors approved, in concept, a relationship with
Avenet for the implementation of the Web for Cities
project. LMC will be working with avenet to
develop their newly launched GovOffice.com
product to meet the specific needs of Minnesota
cities. The end result will allow cities of all sizes the
ability to build and maintain effective city Web sites,
and to receive Web hosting services, at very
affordable cost.
LMC will also work with Avenet to make interactive
add -ons, such as park and recreation applications
and online permitting, available to member cities -
whether they develop their Web site using
GovOffice.com or through other means. This will be
accomplished primarily through partnerships with
http:// wwwlmnc.org/services /webforcitie
Page 38
'Quick Links
wilding
cammunitie
where ...
...W7rtre p
dud serve
youth
invo1VQm
2/5/01
