MINUTES
PLANNING CO:'CvI1SSION
NOVEMBER 3. 2001
Roycraft pointed out the lost tax revenue to the City since Knox closed.
The Planner pointed out that taxes are still being paid on the property even
though it is vacant.
Duray agreed that the focus should not be on being too restrictive with the
use of the property, but should be on eliminating the outdoor storage use.
Barraciough pointed out that they do not make land anymore, and the
longer the Knox site sits, the more valuable it becomes. Barraclough
stated that he would rather wait for the right development to come along
than to jump az the first proposal.
Roycraft again suggested that the business community be contacted to
determine what is viable. Roycrart suggested senior housing on this site.
Wojcik noted that the property is not accessible to services. Roycrati
suggested that shuttles could take seniors to and from retail areas.
Keis did not feel the Knox area was a good recreational site (bowling alley
or theater use). Barraclough stated that long -term he does not see Levitz
or the outlet store surviving in this area.
Keis stated that he would like to see the area move up via aesthetics and
type of architecture used.
The Planner indicated that he would put together a report with some
definitive options for the Commission's review at its next meeting.
PLANNING Keis expressed disappointment in the Commission's lack of involvement
CONIIVIISSION'S in the City's purchase of and redeveloping planning for The Venetian inn
ROLE site. Keis felt that this was a major planning issue and that the Planning
Commission should be involved. Keis asked the Council for a
clarification of the role of the Commission.
.ADJOURN
Wojcik recommended the meeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Duray.
Motion carried 5 — 1
Page 101
