2. How will the municipality assure materiats are collected in 2002 from those households that will
not receive recycling collection services under a municipally - arranged contract? (e.g., ordinance
provisions, licensing requirements, other mechanism) What materials are reouired to be
collected, and at what frequency?
Service is not provided under contract. However, our ordinance Section
809.050 requires all licensed haulers to provide a recycling program for
their customers. Weekly pick -up is also provided for multi -unit buildings.
The same items as listed for single family are picked up and reports are
turned in every six months reporting the tonnages.
3. What changes are planned or anticipated for 2002?
We will be increasing our promotional efforts on the cable channel. The
website has just been launched and that has a section on recycling.
4. How are recycling services in 2002 to be paid for, beyond any use of SCORE funds? What lona-
term funding source is in place for recycling services?
Possibly pay for recycling on sewer /water bills. Another option we are
evaluating is the possibility of the city billing the residents for refuse
& recycling versus the haulers.
5. Describe the municipality's source reduction and recycling promotional efforts. List types of
materials to be used, intended audiences, and method and frequency of distribution.
Currently, we send 6 newsletters out a year to our residents which include
information on recycling and hazardous waste disposal. Additionally, we give
new residents brochures on how to recycle, we place information on our
Cable Channel 16, we place information on our City info -line, information
is on the website, and we occasionally publish articles in the newspaper.
The website, info -line, and Cable Channel are available to the residents
at any time.
6. What measurable goals do you have for source reduction and recycling activities in 2002? Please
describe how you will measure progress toward those goals and how activities will be evaluated.
The City has a goal of increasing recycling for both single family
and multi -unit residents by 57. We will be measuring that progress
with the reports the haulers submit.
7. If any activities will be conducted by a contractor or subcontractor, what provisions will be made
to monitor and audit (sub)contractor activities?
N/A
Page 22
