MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JULY 12, 2001
CUP FOR
GARAGE —
2935 EDGERTON
STREET —
BRETT PIRKOLA
Knudsen asked if the garage would be for personal use only. Webster
replied that that was correct.
Knudsen felt that the garage placement worked well on the property. The
narrow side of the building would be facing the street, and the garage
would be set back far enough that the 60 foot depth would not be apparent.
Knudsen felt the garage would be an upgrade to the appearance of' the
property.
Knudsen recommended approval of the Conditional Use Permit allowing
construction of a 25 foot by 60 foot garage for a total of 1,500 square feet
of garage space at 2808 Noel Drive as requested by Neil Webster subject
to compliance with the recommendations of the City Planner as outlined in
his report dated July 10, 2001 and subject to removal of all other
garage /shed structures from the property.
Motion seconded by Roycraft.
Motion carried 7 — 0.
The Commission reviewed the request of Brett Pirkola, 2935 Edgerton
Street, for a Conditional Use Permit to allow construction of a 22 foot by
34 foot accessory garage which would bring total garage space to just
under 1,500 square feet. Mr. Pirkola was not present at the meeting.
The Commission noted receipt of two letters in opposition to the
Conditional Use Permit. It was also noted that one letter raises code
enforcement issues at 2959 Edgerton resulting from a similar garage. The
Deputy Clerk indicated that this complaint has been referred to the Code
Enforcement Officer for action.
Barraclough reported that he visited the Pirkola property today to review
the application. In discussing the matter with Mr. Pirkola, he plans to put
an 8 -foot garage door on the back of the existing attached garage. As a
result, access to the new garage would be through the existing garage.
Barraclough noted that this is also one of the recommendations of the City
Planner.
It was noted that it appears that Mr. Pirkola is already driving alongside
the north side of his garage to access his backyard. The Commission's
consensus was that this was not acceptable for access to a new garage in
the back, and the access would have to be through the existing garage.
Roycraft expressed concern with the construction materials that would be
used for the garage. Keis pointed out that the garage would have vinyl
siding and aluminum soffits. Carson felt the materials were acceptable.
2
PAGE 12
