515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
Email: cityhall @ci.little - canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: ,June 21, 2001
RE:
Fill Permit
131 -133 Twin Lake Blvd.
MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Matt Anderson
Rick Montour
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The attached filling and grading permit application is for the placement of approximately 8,000
cubic yards of fill material to protect the existing garage and house from damage done by
erosion.
I have inspected the site and the following are my findings:
• The existing garage and house are very close to the edge of a 50 foot drop off.
• The area has an erosion problem that is affecting the garage now and will be affecting the
house with time.
• The placement of fill 25 feet from the current edge (high point) will help protect the garage
and house from erosion (see attached sketch).
• There is sufficient area on the property to place the 611 as proposed.
• The project is too small to require Watershed District approval (see attached letter).
Based on the above I recommend City Council approval of this filling and grading permit
subject to the following conditions:
1. All trees in the fill area be cut even with the ground and removed from the fill area.
2. The side slope of the fill area have a minimum of 1 foot vertical to 1 '/2 foot horizontal.
3. Silt fence be installed 5 feet away (north) of the final toe of the proposed fill.
4. The entire fill area (top and slopped area) be seeded with the perennial grass seed
within 21 days of fill placement and no later than September 15, 2001.
5. Remove silt fence once turf is established.
'.\ CLCSRV01 \HOMEVessicaJ \Agenda\2001 Mill and grade
Page 200
